Postscript

Here’s a PS for the recent post. I’m trying out* the ZenPhoto gallery, which some WordPress bloggers use. I love its clean interface and bulk uploading features. There’s a ZenPress plugin for WP that makes inserting images from the gallery fairly easy and painless.

Both appear to be relatively young in development; I think ZenPhoto has potential. If you’ve ever used Coppermine or Gallery2 for hosting your own gallery, they are massive compared to ZenPhoto, which uses fewer files, has simpler options/configuration, and is more dynamic. There are plans for WordPress integration, which I think would be awesome.

I used it for the hat pictures in yesterday’s post, so you may have noticed the difference. I displayed clickable thumbnails instead. I haven’t dressed up the ZenPhoto gallery on my site yet, but you can preview it here. I’m curious about a few things. Do you prefer thumbnails in blog posts (loads faster for reading) that you can click on-demand, or the larger images I’ve used in the past (loads a bit slower)? If you clicked to view a larger image, did it load quickly? Was it too much of a nuisance to have to back-button to the original post instead of closing a pop-up window? Many thanks! :)

*Because my Picasa integration plugin for WordPress has suddenly started duplicating my pictures… sigh.

Spellchecking

I got a notification tonight from Firebox about a new update for 1.5, but I decided to try Firefox 2.0 instead. Guess what?

Mishmash

Remember these Halloween treat bags I posted earlier? Turns out Nicole is right about the black bag being a cat! My mom and I couldn’t figure it out, I think because the lighting was pretty bad and it was all floppy. There’s a much better picture at the store’s website.

Though I haven’t installed WordPress, I’ve been researching the plugins and features available to see how well it’ll meet my needs.

Bookography

I took a peek over at Levenger and stumbled across Electronic Bookography.

A different kind of keyboard

This is so cool!

It’s a bluetooth accessory that uses lasers to create a keyboard on any flat surface. Doesn’t that sound pretty nifty? Well, go look at the picture. (Scroll down a bit on the linked page above.)

What will they think of next? Monitor-less screens?

Improvements

Ah…. much better. I think I have all the plugins I want/need right now. I can now schedule posts to publish at a later date, which is great because I seem to think of things to post about on the weekends. Now, instead, I can schedule and spread them out through the week.

I’ve also added a Rich-Text Editor; it makes posting less of a headache. I had to type in the code by hand (well, I could have used a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver or Nvu, but that means using another program and then copy-pasting), and mistakes happened. Now, I can just highlight and insert links or format text, easy peasy. A small selection of these formatting options are available in the comment box too. : )

I also finally figured out where the setting was to require contact information for anonymous commenters, yay! I’m surprised at myself for not finding/notcing this setting sooner. I have anonymous comments enabled for the time being. That may change when (not if, I know it will happen sometime) the spammers find this site.

I’ve decided to take a different approach with posting pictures. I’ve already edited the Sock Yarn Stash (previous post) to reflect this. I like this method and will go back to update others.

So, I’m happier with this site; it’s getting closer to what I want. I’m still looking for a nice theme/skin. And I’ve been trying dozens several. There are two more coming out soon for this platform and I’ll wait until I can try them out and decide which I like best.

Have a nice day. And don’t forget! Spring Forward!!
