Ravelympics 2008: FO #2

I was really suprprised at how quickly I was able to knit these. It took only 6 days (I took one day off to seam and finish the Loon sweater). Considering that these are my first ever pair of stranded colorwork socks, I’m very happy with them.

Ravelympics 2008: Days 1-7

(Many thanks for everyone’s kind comments about the bunny pullover. I’ve been so focused on my Olympic knitting that email, blog-reading, and the like have fallen by the wayside, sorry!)

The Ravelry is doing a fun knit/crochet/spin/dye/whatever-along during the 2008 Olympics, with over 5500 members participating. I signed up with two projects and two teams: The Loon for Team Editors and Anise Socks for Team Stashdown. more »

A little cheese, a little whine

I cast-on for my first project of the new year last Friday. I was full of excitement, hope, and knitting promise. The yarn was a good match for the pattern, light colored with good stitch definition. A very good start!

Broadripple

Broadripples were all the craze two or three years ago. I have so many sock patterns I would like to knit that I either forget what’s available, or have a hard time choosing. Ravelry helped me remember the Broadripple pattern, which has been sitting at number two in my queue since I signed up. Hooray!

Thrice the Fun

(Psst, here’s a secret… I am approaching the 500 comment mark here on this blog. The lucky 500th commenter will receive a small prize!)

As I was working on the hats mentioned in the previous post, Abigail posted her new dishcloth pattern. I was intrigued by the rounded corners and decided I needed a break from hats.

Upon opening my cotton stash storage box, I picked out two different but complementary colors of Sugar ‘n Cream cotton. Why not knit a set of washcloths and send it along with the hats for the Greyhound Pets of MN craft sale?

Secret Gift Revealed

I finally got a picture of the completed project, so now I can post about it.

First, here’s a another peek that I meant to share before I got bogged down with the holiday knitting rush.

Small Items

Have you ever misplaced a needle, only to find it in the laundry a few days later?

I’ve been busy! I finished the Flamingo socks and mailed them off, sans mutant Zebras. The person who will receive the Zebras has already returned to the Cities, so I will gift these separately. Pictures are forthcoming.

I took a break from socks to knit some fun little things for babies and kids.

Fickle

Now that my deadline knitting has completed, I should’ve returned to my other WIPs, like the Color Blox Sox, Rock and Weave socks, or the Cropped Cardi. But I didn’t.

Faced with a sort-of deadline for August, I dug out the Lion Brand Wool I bought earlier this year and started a stranded two-color swatch. I’ve done Intarsia before, but not Stranded or Fair-Isle, because I hadn’t been very interested in most of the projects I’ve seen. Saturday night, I went at it to see how I would do. Here’s my first swatch:

Surprise, Surprise!

The Madder Ribbed socks are finished! Pictures to come on Tuesday once they’re dry.

I didn’t finish them on Friday night as I planned. Instead, I took a break to make a headband based on Knit and Tonic Wendy’s Dream Swatch Head Scarf. I had about half a skein of that yummy Alchemy Bamboo in Rust Red left over from making Mom this basket for her birthday. I thought, “Oooh, perfect for a headband,” since I didn’t have a whole skein to work with. My plan is to find some elastic I’ve put away somewhere and sew the two ends together. I’ll try to do that this coming weekend. But meanwhile, here are a couple pictures. more »

Sock Blockers and eBay Find

Thanks again for the nice comments on my Sixth Sense Socks! : ) They were fun to knit! (And in full disclosure, I’m wearing them for the second day in a row.)

Celia asked about the sock blockers I used (you can see them in the first picture in yesterday’s post): “Question, are the sock blockers worth the money?
