Socks, ghosts, and links, oh my!

For a while, I was working on my current SOS08 pair, Big Basin (from Six Sox Knitalong). This is the first time I’m using a wool-tencel blend more »

Veni, vidi, vici

Remember these terrible, horrible, no good, very bad socks? I was tired of them hanging around, unfinished and making this knitter all kinds of unhappy.

No more!

At long last!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes last week. I’m mostly over my cold now. Strangely, it was mild (as in I didn’t need much medicine), but also was lingering and annoying. I was very glad to finally get a good night’s sleep!

I managed to finish three garter squares for Warm Up America, but I didn’t feel well enough for the MOA and Knit-Out, so I’ve mailed them directly to the organization. No pictures of the squares; they were knit with Bernat Softee doubled, left over from this blanket (scroll down a little bit).

Once the squares were finished, I eagerly returned to the Fluted Banister socks, because the toes were all that was left to knit.

Frankly, it’s not a UFO

I’ve been working on several projects using worsted weight yarn (more about these next week) and I started to get tired of the sameness in gauge. My solution was to pick up my abandoned Fluted Banister socks from last September.

They looked like this when we last saw them, one leg and the second cuff just completed.

Small Items

Have you ever misplaced a needle, only to find it in the laundry a few days later?

I’ve been busy! I finished the Flamingo socks and mailed them off, sans mutant Zebras. The person who will receive the Zebras has already returned to the Cities, so I will gift these separately. Pictures are forthcoming.

I took a break from socks to knit some fun little things for babies and kids.

MN State Fair = End of Summer

The Thursday before Labor Day, Mom and I went to the MN State Fair. Our first stop was the Creative Activities building where you can see all the entries in the crafts and baking competitions. Here are a few pictures of interesting things I saw or liked. (Sorry, no sock monkeys! Actually—we couldn’t find the famed dresses.)

Show & Tell

Other than the Color Blox socks I posted about last weekend, I haven’t been able to share my recent FOs.

Color Blox Sox

They’re done! And just in time for the 6Sox deadline! : )

I didn’t spend much time on these socks for most of July for two reasons. I was so busy and tired from work, I needed “faster” projects (using thicker, worsted weight yarns). And I stalled on the swirling pattern. Last weekend, I picked them up again, and had no problems with the swirl. In fact, I liked it so much I changed the second sock to swirl the other way!

Sock Progress

During the past week, I finished the toes and insteps on the Color Blox Sox for 6Sox. I haven’t taken a real progress picture yet because it’s all stockinette. I did finish the heels last night, and they look great and fit very well, yay! I enjoyed this type of toe-up heel-flap-gusset construction. It seemed to go faster than the traditional cuff-down heel-flap-gussets (which always seem to take me forever). The Potluck Jewels (from my SP8, thanks!) I’m using for these socks look great knitted up.

I’m back!

We got back on Sunday, but I haven’t been able to post until now. I’m still feeling tired from a combination of the trip, work, and lack of allergy medicine. It was a good weekend, we looked at various properties, and I shopped at Bemidji Woolen Mills, Ben Franklin, and Pamida… Yes, I bought yarn or knitting notions at each store. The weather was chilly at first but improved over the weekend.

I finished one gusset on the Rock and Weave socks, and started the other. I also knit the same toe twice for the Color Blox Sox. I’ve also finished three inches of the front panels for the Cropped Cardigan. I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished, but I need to get back to the SYAC swap socks now.

I’ve got to clean around the house today and catch up on blogs and email, but I hope to take some pictures that I can post tomorrow.

I’m glad you all enjoyed the JD/PC cereal box photo! I just had to check out the flip-flops Renee referenced , so cool!
