Implosion
(I think we will reach 2,000 comments this week!? Remember that the lucky poster of the 2,000th comment will win a gift certificate, or if you missed the details, see the bottom of this post.)
I have been quite delinquent on showing some of the nice yarns added to my stash during the past few months. Here’s a catch-up! more »
Awards
(Quick Ravelry update: In case you haven’t been there lately, three new and limited-edition beta t-shirts are available for pre-order. Get yourself over there and order one ASAP! They are available to current beta users only, but pre-orders will stay open until October 15.)
Megan of mega(k)nits tagged me for the Rockin’ Girl Blogger award. And Knittymama nominated me for two additional awards: “Nice Matters” and “The Power to Schmooze.” Thank you both for the honors! : )

- Rockin’ Girl Blogger, created by Roberta; this award is self-explanatory.
- Nice Matters was started by Bella Enchanted; “…awarded to those that are just nice people, good blog friends, and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! Those that care about others that are there to lend support or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!”
- The Power to Schmooze is a joint effort between ordinary folk and Pink “to recognize those people that were exceptionally adept at creating relationships with other bloggers by making an effort to be part of a conversation, as opposed to a monologue.“
In turn, I would like to nominate these wonderful bloggers (in alphabetical order):
- the Akamai Knitter
- bellamoden
- Cashmere Dreams
- Casting Away
- FuzzyBritches
- Knerq
- Rahardjo-Knits
- honorable mention to my cousin M who is a new blogger with a new internship in a new city.
Behind and Behinder
Ahoy, me hearties! I was out of town last week, and intended to have several posts scheduled and ready to go. Unfortunately, I ran out of time before departing and forgot to upload the needed pictures.
Below is a mini-catchup, and tomorrow, you’ll find out where I traveled!
BookMate Update
Some of you will recall I posted reviews of hands-free book holders earlier this year, including the BookMates I & II. Two weeks ago, I received an odd email through my contact form about the BookMate. At first I thought it might be spam, but I decided to check the website first. It turns out that the BookMates have been discontinued at BookMateStore.com.
They will continue to honor warranties, which is good. They plan to introduce a new line of book holders/covers/stands by November 1. I wonder what they’ll be like, and how they compare with the original versions and those from other manufacturers. I’ll try to post another update once the new product is available.
Organic Power
The heavy rains and related floods that hit SE MN and SW WI a few weeks ago have affected many of the region’s farms. Knittymama is holding a fundraiser contest in conjunction with Sow the Seeds‘ fundraiser to help these organic farmers. Please consider donating (details are in the contest post) to this worthy cause. You could win some pretty yarn! Deadline is September 29.
Flower Power
The newest installment of the Rockin’ Sock Club arrived a few weeks ago. I’m fairly sure all members have received their yarn, and this is old news, but in case you haven’t seen it yet:
I admit, when I first pulled the yarn out of the envelope, I only saw the blue and brown end, and thought, “Huh… This seems very similar to Rainforest Jasper?” But as you can see in the picture, more colors are included, including indigo and magenta, in the colorway. Groovy.
Red Socks
(Quick note: I will be upgrading Wordpress and doing various clean-up/catch-up tasks here on this blog during the next few days. If this post or the site doesn’t load, you’ll know why. Thanks!)
I’ve not felt like blogging or reading blogs lately. Right now, spending more than a hour at the computer gives me a headache. I’ve also been craving stimulation, knit-wise. Instead of the straightforward projects I have lined up, I want to knit something a bit more exciting, and not sock-related. Perhaps a lace shawl? Colorwork mittens?
Anyway, today is the last day of June, and I’ve got some finished socks to post!
May Day
How’s this for a triple? These socks qualify for Sockamania, SAM3, and the Rockin’ Sock Club! They were a fairly quick knit.
Teeny Socks
Seaming work on the Cropped Cardigan continues, but I’ve been taking breaks from it to work on some stash-busting projects. I’ve also been motivated to finally attach buttons to my Rock ‘n Weave socks from last year.
Yes, it’s a zoo
In more ways than one… I’ve neglected much of my holiday preparation except knitting. Today, I will have to start focusing on gift wrapping, addressing cards (late!) and helping Mom decorate the tree.
Chris mentioned that I was knitting a zoo. How very true. Another way to look at it is as a Noah’s Ark, since I am knitting pairs of each animal. :)
I’ve got pictures, but they aren’t the best—the sun has gone temporarily into hibernation.
Gusto!
Today’s post title comes from a comment left by Guinifer last week. It’s a great word; I don’t think I have ever used it in an actual conversation. But it certainly applies here.
My yarn-buying binge did not stop at the 3 Kittens sale. Did you notice (perhaps with surprise) that I didn’t buy any sock yarn there? That’s right, I didn’t. There weren’t many left in the sale section, and nothing inside the store tickled my fancy. You see, last month, I suddenly had a craving for green sock yarn. It had to be a certain green. The dark green Fury I have in my stash from Shelridge Farms didn’t satisfy my craving because it’s so dark it appears black. I wanted something really green. What to do?
Sock Yarn Love
I really do like sock yarn! They’re so colorful and fun to look at. Plus, you usually only need 1-2 skeins and that’s not as expensive as buying yarn for larger projects. Before I put myself on a yarn diet, I had acquired some fun and varied sock yarns. (Hey! Today, it’ll have been been 5 weeks! Yay!)
