I guess I haven’t been a very good knitblogger lately. :/ Partly because I’ve been obsessively knitting a stalled shawl and then a simple scarf for a silent auction fundraiser, another scarf of my own design, and partly because of the technology blahs.
Return of the Cuties
Some people left comments on my previous post about how they hadn’t been able to knit during their time on Jury Duty. Fortunately, I have been able to take along my knitting and work on it while waiting. Our introductory video even showed yarn and needles when listing suggestions of what to do while waiting!
It was a bit odd on Monday; apparently most knitters in this week’s jury pool used the Kellogg Blvd entrance and had their knitting confiscated by security. I used the 4th St entrance and had no trouble. The Jury Supervisor was awesome! He went to the security station and picked up the yarn and needles and returned them to their owners.
It’s also my first time inside the Ramsey County Courthouse. I never realized (it’s so different looking at a building’s exterior up close and personal than from afar) that it contains fabulous Art Deco features. Even the tiniest detail, like the women’s restroom door handle, is gorgeous.
More knitting—more baby items in my favorite color!
You aren’t seeing double. I knit the same hat and booties again, this time in a lovely purple. These are for another Rachel (with only one L this time), who happens to be my cousin. She was expecting a girl in October; naturally I wanted to knit a few things for them.
I picked up some Louet Gems, and had trouble with the gauge for the hat. As you can see, it turned out smaller than the Panda Wool version. Eeep! It blocked out well, but might not fit for a very long while. This time around, I got the garter stitch border on the lace edging correct. It looks much nicer!
Of War and Sockdeath
During the past few weeks, I’ve been participating in Sock Wars 2006. It’s a tourney or assassin-style knitalong where each socknitter is assigned a target. We’re given a weapon (the International Socks of Doom pattern) and must try to complete and mail off our target’s socks before being killed ourselves. It’s been fun, even if it got off to a shaky start with Hurricane Gordon hitting Ireland right at the start. Yarn Monkey had trouble sending out dossiers but we got ourselves mostly sorted out and worked our merry ways through the tourney.
It has been interesting to watch; more »
Stitches Midwest 2006
I was so tired when I got home from Chicago that I actually went to bed at 8:00 PM that evening. Such a quick trip, and I didn’t get to make any side forays into Chicago as I hoped (Millennium Park, or the King Tut exhibit at The Field Museum, for example). (It also was a bit extra stressful traveling due to heightened security.)
July Secret Pal Goodies, Part II
Great, big apologies for being so late in posting abot my latest packages from Atlantis (1SSP) and SP8, both, who sent wonderful packages last month. Part I shares what I received from Atlantis, and below you’ll see my latest SP8 package. : )

New Socks!
First, a few quick updates. I’ve temporarily changed my blog theme to match June Project Spectrum. : ) I actually like the layout, and the central (main body) width is similar to my default, but I get three columns, instead of two. I’d love your feedback on the layout/theme; is it something I should consider personalizing for this blog? Any problems with your browser, etc? Otherwise, enjoy the pretty blue colors. I have a bunch of pictures… some are ready to post, others still need cropping. I’d rather split them up into several posts, so that’s what I will do the rest of this week. Also, yesterday evening, I finally got my allergy refill, so I’m much better now.
And now, here’s the fun stuff! I got a surprise package in the mail while I was gone… my swap socks for the SYAC Spring Feet Sock Swap! Totally unexpected, and very exciting! My swap knitter was Kelly of The Gabby Knitter.
MORE New Yarn
Seems like I’ve gotten a plethora of new yarn just lately. : )My newest addition to my yarn stash are two bags of gorgeous 100% linen Flax from Berroco in color 5042 Crested Iris. It’s just been discontinued so I got a good price on it through WEBS. I am not sure yet what I will make with this yarn, but I’m thinking a cardigan possibly.
Also just arrived are two skeins of Berroco’s Suede, a ribbon yarn (my first!). One is in Hopalong Cassidy Color #3714 and the other is Celementine #3757. I’m planning to make these into cell phone bags for gifts. Should be a fun and quick project!
