Socks, ghosts, and links, oh my!
For a while, I was working on my current SOS08 pair, Big Basin (from Six Sox Knitalong). This is the first time I’m using a wool-tencel blend more »
Gansey Redux
It’s hard to get back in the swing of blogging when one hasn’t been able to blog regularly for a while. My knitting feels unproductive. I’ve also been procrastinating on finishing up a sock pattern, but have set this week as the deadline.
The mother of one of Mom’s co-workers had recently passed away, and she had given my mother two bagfuls of leftover yarn (her mother had been a knitter and crocheter). Mom requested that I make her (the co-worker) a gansey cap with this yarn, just like the one I had made earlier this year
Vested
A few days before Christmas, I finished the main knitting of the big gray blob. It was so big I had to be very careful when picking it up and carrying it, lest it get stretched out. For extra peace of mind, I waited to take a pre-felting picture until I had basted together most of the openings. The picture isn’t the greatest, but should give an idea of just how big this thing was! more »
A little cheese, a little whine
I cast-on for my first project of the new year last Friday. I was full of excitement, hope, and knitting promise. The yarn was a good match for the pattern, light colored with good stitch definition. A very good start!
Alas, the most unexpected and most terrible thing happened! more »
Recipe: Cranberry Pecan Bars
My mom received a framed copy of this recipe years ago from an old friend. Whenever she needs or wants to bake some holiday treats, she’ll make a batch of these bars. They’re sweet, tart, and yummy all at the same time.
Implosion
(I think we will reach 2,000 comments this week!? Remember that the lucky poster of the 2,000th comment will win a gift certificate, or if you missed the details, see the bottom of this post.)
I have been quite delinquent on showing some of the nice yarns added to my stash during the past few months. Here’s a catch-up! more »
Mom’s Scarf
It’s finished! Yay! I ended up ordering one more skein of Crystal Palace Yarns “Party” online and it arrived a couple weeks ago. It was enough for me to be able to finish the scarf. And just in time for Mother’s Day!
… and all I got was this cute t-shirt
Last week, Mom was invited to a preview of this exhibition at the Weisman Art Museum. She bought me a cool tee as a surprise (Thank you!).
Swap Socks and a Cuff
These warm socks are on their way to their recipient in Australia, so I’ll post a little picture now. I got some funny striping with the Super Glitz (Cherry Tree Hill, DK weight, colorway River Run). See?
