I wanted to name this post “Steeking is Fun”
(Edited to Add: Grandma wants to say Hello to her neighbor Dorothy!)
But I thought that might scare away some people!
Here’s the dog pullover I’ve been working on since September. more »
The story of a little skein
(Quick note: My dad’s health has declined since his long illness a couple years ago. This past summer, he was accepted as a candidate for a heart transplant, and last week, he was admitted to the hospital and is now waiting for a new heart. My cousin up north is also in the hospital with kidney-related problems. Wish us luck and healing!)
This cute little skein in lovely blues and greens was given to me by my parents after a trip to Michigan for a family reunion in August. Grandma liked the colors, so I decided to make something for her, and I knew just the thing.
Veni, vidi, vici
Remember these terrible, horrible, no good, very bad socks? I was tired of them hanging around, unfinished and making this knitter all kinds of unhappy.
No more!
A Cardi for Grandma
Quick BookMate update: I was contacted again by the person who sells the BookMates. They are still available for purchase at this new website, and I think a few of the BookMate I cover designs are new. (No affiliation, just an interested reader.)
A year later than intended, I presented Grandma with the Cropped Cardigan (see previous post) for her birthday.
She was very pleased with the gift and said that no one had ever given her a handmade sweater before. We all thought it looked nice and fit quite well. Yay!
It’s cold!
Thanks again to everyone who left comments about my Dad. I’m glad to report he’s well on the way to recovery, and was able to spend Thanksgiving at home.
It’s been busy, busy. We’ve been shopping, working, solving jigsaw puzzles, baking and cooking, eating, and knitting. (Okay, that last one was just me!) Here’s a picture from when Grandma and I baked some of my favorite Pumpkin cookies. more »
Update
Thank you again to everyone who left comments about my Dad in my last post. We really appreciated it. He did leave the hospital last Monday. But by Friday, he had a high fever and signs of Pneumonia, and Mom took him back to the hospital yesterday morning. He has had oxygen and also new antibiotics. The folks at the hospital are hopeful that he will be able to go home tomorrow or the day after that.
I’ve been keeping myself busy knitting and cleaning my parents’ house and have hardly spent any time at the computer. I’m ridiculously behind. Grandma is in town for Thanksgiving, so we’ll be hitting the day-after sales this weekend. I hope to be able to share pictures of WIPs and FOs next week.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Madder Ribbed Socks
Not the Usual Suspects
Another pair finished! I’ll update my sidebar after this.
I used a lone Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock skein in the Bucks Bar colorway. You can see in the below picture how subtle the colors blend and stripe.
Unexpected Delay
I finished the sockettes on Saturday night, but even though I bound off loosely, they wouldn’t fit over my heel. Which means they wouldn’t fit Grandma.
So…. I undid the bind-off and tried a loose crochet bind-off. Didn’t work. Undid that, and tried a very loose sewn bind-off. It helped, but not very much.
Clearly, I needed something more drastic. But what? I decided to tink 5 rows for some needed yarn, and then did two rows of tubular stockinette and grafted these two sides together. It’s actually too big for me (but then I have small ankles), so I think we’ve finally got it.
Tomorrow, I’ll finish the other sock! :)
Yarnover 2006 and More
(Sigh… I had over half of this post typed out, then my mouse went bonkers and I lost the post!)
Quick Sockettes update: I have just half of a cuff to go… I aim to finish tonight and post pictures tomorrow.
Yarnover 2006: Mom and I went through all the colorful, fiber goodness this morning. I know some other local bloggers were planning to go, I think I might’ve seen Renee, maybe… There were LOTS of people. :)
