Goldilocks

When I started putting away the few colors of left over Wool-Ease I had pulled from stash for the Gansey Watch Cap, it occurred to me that I could make my own marled yarn by mixing and holding different color strands together as one yarn.

But what to make? Hats! I needed to add a couple more to my packet for Cornerstone.

Vested

A few days before Christmas, I finished the main knitting of the big gray blob. It was so big I had to be very careful when picking it up and carrying it, lest it get stretched out. For extra peace of mind, I waited to take a pre-felting picture until I had basted together most of the openings. The picture isn’t the greatest, but should give an idea of just how big this thing was! more »

Somewhat Plain

Whee! These are the last pair of socks I needed to finish for holiday knitting. The original plan was to incorporate the leftovers from the other Italian series with this last colorway. That didn’t work out because I used up all of the yarn with the Broadripple and Yarrow socks. Nevertheless, these turned out well with the backup coordinating yarn (Patons Kroy in Newport Tan).

Broadripple

Broadripples were all the craze two or three years ago. I have so many sock patterns I would like to knit that I either forget what’s available, or have a hard time choosing. Ravelry helped me remember the Broadripple pattern, which has been sitting at number two in my queue since I signed up. Hooray!

Have you any Panda Wool?

I thought this last-minute but thoughtful gift would be a Breeze. But disaster has befallen; I have completely run out of yarn!

Cables and skimpy yardage** turned out to be a bad match. Even though I should’ve known better, I had every faith that what I had (one skein plus a bit leftover from the baby hat and booties already knit from a second skein) would be enough. Nope. more »

Implosion

(I think we will reach 2,000 comments this week!? Remember that the lucky poster of the 2,000th comment will win a gift certificate, or if you missed the details, see the bottom of this post.)

I have been quite delinquent on showing some of the nice yarns added to my stash during the past few months. Here’s a catch-up! more »

Very Warm Hat

Here’s a Finished Object that I’m very late blogging. It’s also my very first EZ project. FuzzyBritches’ Warm Up the Winter gave me the perfect opportunity to knit a Very Warm Hat, which I’ve wanted to knit for quite a while now.

The yarn was left over from the Triple Patterned hat you’ve already seen. more »

Slytherin Socks

It took a long time but I finally finished the socks for Amelia, my Hogwarts Sock Swap TWO pal. We had exchanged emails at the beginning of the swap where she indicated that, because she received a pair of Gryffindor socks in the previous swap, she was open to receiving a pair of socks in another house’s colors.

Based on her feedback and comments, I decided to knit a pair in Slytherin House colors. My original plan was to knit a pair of Nagini socks. However, I got the feeling Amelia was interested in knitting that pattern herself someday, so I decided to design something new for her.

I still need to work out a few last details (and pick a name!), but I plan to have the pattern available next year. My holiday and charity knitting have me busy until the end of this year.

Santa drinks Starbucks!

Yes, really.

We’ve spotted Santa at Starbucks a few times while Mom and I were mall-walking. The first time it happened, I tried to double back and and nonchalantly shoot a picture with my Treo camera. However, he saw me through the window and waved. I was too embarrassed to bother with a picture and sheepishly went on with my walk.

The next time we walked by Starbucks (the one located on the Second Level, West Market Street, across from Eddie Bauer), Mom saw him and decided to go inside and ask him his permission for a picture. He graciously obliged.

You never know, you might bump into Santa the next time you go to Starbucks! Edited 12.4.07 Santa also rides a motorcycle! (Scroll down to the last picture; thanks Tracey!)

In other news… I noticed that this blog’s number of comments is approaching the 2,000 mark. I hope to reach it before the end of the year. If someone leaves the 2,000th comment on or before December 31, 2007, I’ll award a $20 gift certificate to that person. The winner will be able to choose a certificate from one of the following: Amazon, The Loopy Ewe, or Woolgirl. Will you be the lucky commenter??
