New Socks!

First, a few quick updates. I’ve temporarily changed my blog theme to match June Project Spectrum. : ) I actually like the layout, and the central (main body) width is similar to my default, but I get three columns, instead of two. I’d love your feedback on the layout/theme; is it something I should consider personalizing for this blog? Any problems with your browser, etc? Otherwise, enjoy the pretty blue colors. I have a bunch of pictures… some are ready to post, others still need cropping. I’d rather split them up into several posts, so that’s what I will do the rest of this week. Also, yesterday evening, I finally got my allergy refill, so I’m much better now.

And now, here’s the fun stuff! I got a surprise package in the mail while I was gone… my swap socks for the SYAC Spring Feet Sock Swap! Totally unexpected, and very exciting! My swap knitter was Kelly of The Gabby Knitter.

Making Progress!

Thanks again for the compliments about my recently completed Madder Ribbed socks. I appreciated them and enjoyed these socks very much (even though I had to rip them out and restart)… the patterning is simple yet entertaining and attractive. more »

Apologies

My apologies to visitors expecting to find my blog and knitting content. I am currently experiencing troubles with public access. I’m trying to get the problems solved ASAP. Thanks for your patience. :)

Improvements

Ah…. much better. I think I have all the plugins I want/need right now. I can now schedule posts to publish at a later date, which is great because I seem to think of things to post about on the weekends. Now, instead, I can schedule and spread them out through the week.

I’ve also added a Rich-Text Editor; it makes posting less of a headache. I had to type in the code by hand (well, I could have used a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver or Nvu, but that means using another program and then copy-pasting), and mistakes happened. Now, I can just highlight and insert links or format text, easy peasy. A small selection of these formatting options are available in the comment box too. : )

I also finally figured out where the setting was to require contact information for anonymous commenters, yay! I’m surprised at myself for not finding/notcing this setting sooner. I have anonymous comments enabled for the time being. That may change when (not if, I know it will happen sometime) the spammers find this site.

I’ve decided to take a different approach with posting pictures. I’ve already edited the Sock Yarn Stash (previous post) to reflect this. I like this method and will go back to update others.

So, I’m happier with this site; it’s getting closer to what I want. I’m still looking for a nice theme/skin. And I’ve been trying dozens several. There are two more coming out soon for this platform and I’ll wait until I can try them out and decide which I like best.

Have a nice day. And don’t forget! Spring Forward!!

Less “eh”

After yesterday’s site meltdown, I spent all morning cleaning up and removing errors. I think I’ve got everything ironed out. There are still a couple of weird errors I’ve contacted my host about.

I took some extra time to try out a few skins and still can’t find anything I specifically like. This one comes close, but is limited in the way only right-sided sidebars are allowed. But I threw together a quick header logo and will keep this until I get time to work on something better. Right now, it’s more important to be able to post stuff here, and be accessible, compared to the past two years, when the site wasn’t accessible. : )

OMG!!

I had some problems with the site earlier today… For a while, I thought I had lost everything… but I preserved, and voila! It’s working again.

Now I need to get some kind of skin/theme up and going. This one is soooo white.

My “eh” site

It’s kinda ugly and messy looking… but it’s definitely a work-in-progress. Someday I’ll get around to adding sidebars, etc. For example, see that teeny logo up there? If I leave it at the actual size… it overlaps the links and stuff. We can’t have that! I’m still experimenting with skins and themes. Here’s what it’s really supposed to look like:

Looks prety good, doesn’t it? I think so too. : )

There’s a bit more to the story of my new logo: a little bit sadness, a little bit humor, and a happy ending. : ) I’ll try to post it soon.

I give, I give!

I’ve been working on this site on and off for more than two years now.

I’m too much of a perfectionist. I’m also too pressed for time. These things result in never having enough time to work on this and get it to the level I want.

I’ve also been wanting to post about my knitting achievements and/or tribulations… and I can’t do that if I keep this site closed and fuss with the settings or the appearance.

So….

I give in to the temptation of being able to record my projects.
I give up (with just a tiny bit of teeth gnashing) any hope of having a nicely setup and nice-looking site anytime SOON!

I’m opening this site as of today. I’ve uploaded some older pictures I had from late 2004 and early 2005 of past projects. You can view my gallery by clicking “pix” on the top menu above.

I’ve promised myself that I would start recording current and ongoing projects and be consistent with that goal!

Meanwhile, whenever I can grab some time I’ll work on the theme/skin. I can handle it! As long as I have content and pictures to post, I will be happy. : ) (Even if the site isn’t pretty.)

A little bit about this site… and why I knit.

I started knitting in August 2003 and fell in love with it. I had learned crochet and knitting as a child but never stuck with it because at that time I preferred counted cross stitch. I stopped doing X-stitch in my early 20s after my eyes worsened.Knitting really appealed to me–I suddenly noticed and was fascinated by fibers, colors, and textures in everything… it was addicting! Two more reasons I liked this new hobby: I could knit while watching TV (and later on, while reading; multitasking? how marvelous!) and also make useful/wearable things. I wanted to add a knitting dairy to my site and realized a major overhaul was necessary.

I still haven’t finished.
