My sock slump is finally broken! The cure? Some fun self-striping worsted weight sock yarn!

Stripy Socks

I love the matchy-matchy stripy goodness of the socks. I used up all but a couple grams of two skeins, and am fairly happy with the length. One more skein would have been nice, but as I got these in a Ravelry destash, I wasn’t about to go hunting for a third skein in the same dyelot. I love the dark, woodsy colors of the stripes.

I cut off the black stripe that was at the beginning of each skein and plugged it into the heels. Doing this helped maintain the stripe pattern on the instep; and is a trick I read about in Lucy Neatby’s Cool Socks, Warm Feet.

Stripy Insteps

The gussets and heels took three tries; the first time I started the increases too late, and needed to rip back. The second try was fairly close, but I felt I needed two more gusset increases for ease and length. The frogging was worth it to achieve a perfect fit!

Stripy Legs

The color changes in the ribbed legs are all knit stitches. While I love how it looks, it probably isn’t worth the bit of extra effort, because the knit rounds bulge slightly. Maybe this will go away after time?

I should start some fingering weight socks soon before I lose my mojo!

There was no frog kissing involved? They look so cute! Very matchy-matchy. Did cutting off the black stripe and knitting it in the heels cause lots of ends that needed to be woven in?

Nice socks! I like the yarn. Good idea on plugging the black yarn into the heels too.

Wow, great colours! Some day I’ll have to try matching up stripes. Until then, it’s life on the edge … :-)
