Blogging Tips (Contest #6)
Posted by limedragon | Filed under books, contests, general
You know what I didn’t do in 2008? Hold any blog giveaways or contests! I had a couple in the works but couldn’t get my act together. Well, here is one of them, finally!
I’m giving away an autographed copy of Lorelle VanFossen’s Blogging Tips: What bloggers won’t tell you about blogging. Whether you’re a new or yet-to-be blogger, or have been blogging for a few years, this useful book covers several topics including: security, administration, defining the blog, and building community.
How to enter? Just leave a comment! If you’re a blogger, share your favorite blogging tip or a random stat/fact about your blog. Comments will be open until midnight CST Tuesday, Jan 13.
I will use the Random Number Generator to pick a winner from the comments and announce it on Wednesday, Jan 14. Good luck and thanks for playing!

I’ll mention this on Monday!
Hmm. When you run out of actual content, caption a pet picture. ;)

I’ll second the caption a pet picture tip.
One tip that I don’t often do is to save your blogging ideas as you get them, in a file or folder.

Hi – the book looks great!
Came here via the Ravelry blogger boards, by the way.

Hmmmm….does this book state that one should not leave one’s blog unposted for more than a month???? I thought so…darn it. I knew I was doing something wrong. LOL Great lace, BTW!

I’m just starting out and just created my blog this week! I need lots of help learning all this new stuff ; ) Thanks for holding the contest!

One thing that always gets my blogging mojo going is to participate in NaBloPoMo which now has monthly topics. Posting every day for a month is a very attainable goal. :)

I’ve found out about your contest from your post on the blogging board on Ravelry. That book sounds very interesting! Thanks for putting my name in the hat! (Sorry for the lack of tip in my comment, I’m a yet-to-be blogger…)

I carry my camera with me everywhere and take photos of anything that strikes my fancy. If I have pictures, the blog post writes itself.

Would love a chance for the book. Saw the contest (and also all your other great stuff) at ravelry.

I think NaBloPoMo taught me that regular preferably daily posts brings more readers. (Unfortunately, while I kept it up in Dec, the last 2weeks has been hurting)
Pictures in your posts helps – since most of my readers are knitters, works in progress photo updates seem to be popular.

I’m a very new blogger….my best tips are to visit blogs to find out what you like and take that into consideration when you start your own blog, blog regularly, pictures, and don’t post overly long posts.
Thank you for entering me into your contest!

Howdy. I found your blog (and the contest) through the kind auspices of Chris, who does a lovely job keeping us all up to date on contests.
And speaking of contests, I’ll be starting one this evening. Well, probably this evening, provided I can get my other chores out of the way quickly enough.

Since I moved my blog to Wordpress nearly two years ago Akismet has caught 6,625 spam comments. :)

Hi,
I think haveing good content and a clear message is important for a blog. And cute pics help as well. Of course I am curious why you would GIVE AWAY an autographed book? (I am a total bibliophile!)
January 12th, 2009 at 8:27 am
I heard about your contest through Chris.
My tip – have a contest :) I’ve found that having a contest always gets you more comments and sometimes those commentors will become regular readers.

I love blogging! I’ve been doing it for almost 2 years now and sometimes I slack at it but I try to post at least once a week.

I wonder if my library has this book? I am so blog challenged.
January 12th, 2009 at 11:08 am
I would love to win..I can use all the help I can get! Most of my readers are knitters so I would say.show wip’s…pattern info, yarn info, plenty of pics. When you visit a blog be nice enough to leave comments. Let your personality come thru, throw out a challange, have a contest or give away…just to name a few!

I’ve been blogging since 2000 when my brother and I shared a blog about recumbent bikes. Since then though it’s been all about fiber arts.

Try not to blog in detail about one’s recent bout with minor illnesses; the flu, a nasty cold, or bunions, etc. Unless it will sound really, really funny. :-]
January 12th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Let’s see…download a bunch of pictures at once and save them for your posts, that way you don’t always have to go digging for your camera when you want to make a post, the pics are already on your computer and ready to go!
January 12th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
What a cool giveaway! I have been blogging for a little over a year and have found it to be very therapeutic…much cheaper than seeing a therapist! I blog about knitting, raising teenagers, and life in general.

I just learned that blogger will only let you have 100 readers. I have a friend who cannot read my blog and there is no other reason why…..what a strange limitation
January 13th, 2009 at 10:03 am
I don’t blog, I just read many of them. Don’t really know how to start one, really…. Please enter me and get me started!
January 13th, 2009 at 10:06 am
Hmmm, I could seriously use that book. I am blog challenged!

If you have a blog, you should have the RSS button at the very top. And, you should actually check out your blog to make sure the links work, the sidebar looks right, etc. See it the way your readers see it.
Anyway, here from Ravelry. :-)
