2009: Planning
Posted by limedragon | Filed under knitting, yarn stash
I recently upgraded WordPress on this blog and decided a makeover was in order. It took several tries (I hoped to find a magazine style layout that worked to my liking, but no luck), and I really like the new look. Fresh and simple at the same time. I hope you all like it too. (And, please let me know if anything appears wonky to you.)
Here are my knitting goals for 2009.
- Finish/frog these UFOs: lace scarf, my parents’ afghan, and second hessian pillow
- Knit a Lopi sweater for myself. (I’ve got the yarn, just need to choose the design.)
- Enter ALL my stash onto Ravelry. (Most of the stuff is photographed already.)
- Complete TKGA Master Knitter Level I.
- Complete 14 pairs of adult socks.
- Be mindful of yarn purchases.
The last item is a sort-of yarn diet that will take place February through December. My primary focus will continue to be about knitting from stash, but I also would like to be more project-conscious when I do shop. I didn’t do a good job of keeping a list of project/yarn ideas last year. Once I have all my yarn entered to Ravelery, I’ll be able to tag or link patterns with stashed/possible yarn, and print out my queue so I’ll have a handy reference for yarn shopping.
I won’t be counting projects; instead I’ll try a “yarn bank” sort of system. Say I finish a pair of handwarmers with 50g of DK yarn and a shawl with 100g of laceweight. I can then put aside some money for my next purchase; the amount depends on a combination of yardage used and the size of the project (for the above example, the shawl allowance would be greater than that of the handwarmers). If I buy yarn, I will deduct from my allowance (yes, even into negative numbers!). So, that means to be successful with this goal, I will have to end the end with a $0 or better balance.
Ready! Set! Knit! :)

I like the new goals … and the new look. :-)
One little thing: at least on this computer, using IE, for the word “limedragon” in your header, the letters are chopped off at the bottom.

I like the new layout! Very smart.
The cataloging of the yarn! Yikes. I started that Saturday – scary stuff! I hadn’t planned on going on a yarn diet but I sure am now.

The layout is just great. I love your bank idea. Is it possible to bounce yarn?
