2008: The End

Hayy 2009 everyone! Here’s a montage of the projects I finished in 2008:

(There are two projects shown that I haven’t blogged about yet. They will be featured in the next two posts!) Not as many socks as in past years, but I managed three baby/kid sweaters and an adult cardi. I also accomplished my first stranded colorwork socks and my first steeks. At the MN State Fair, I won two blue ribbons. I also published my first designs, so scary! It’s been a good year overall.

Do you remember my post way back at the beginniing of 2008 about my plans and goals for the year? No? Feel free to take a moment to refresh your memory. Of the 5 goals I listed, I completely forgot about #1, finishing the afghan for my parents. Oh dear! The TKGA Masters classes? They stayed in the back of my mind and I never got around to signing up for Level I. #3 and #4 were no problem.

My major goal, the yarn regimen, turned into my main focus for the year. I counted projects like dieters count calories. I knitted from stash as much as possible, and purchased yarn only when I was allowed. However, in all honesty, I was only 95% successful. It fell apart in mid-December when I discovered The Dizzy Sheep Daily Deal. (If you’ve never seen it before, you are strongly cautioned; I am not responsible for any damage that may occur to your wallet!) I got two skeins of Dream in Color Baby in Gothic Rose for a super price. I was powerless to resist! (And it was a good thing that when I viewed that particular deal (at 8 AM CST), all but two listed colors were already sold out, or I might’ve gotten more colors!)

For the Ravelry Stash Knit Down group, I set the goals of reducing the total yardage of my stash from 89,795 yards to 69,000, and the sock potential from 103.5 pairs to 85. The final tally? My stash now totals 79,977 yards, and the sock potential is 99. Even if I didn’t meet my goals, I’m pretty happy with how I did yardage-wise. I need to work on my sock stash some more, however, so I better break my sock-knitting funk soon! : )

This post is already long enough, but I want to show you a cute gift I gave Mom for Christmas. It’s a big mitt to use with a ice scraper. It’s a great project to use up some worsted-weight yarn leftovers, and very quick!
