Summer 08 Socks

01.Jul.08 ~ 8:32 am

June always gets busy for me. Since I last blogged, I’ve been to a school reunion (fun!), celebrated my birthday (goodies!), formatted my computer (finally!), and finished two pairs of socks (woo!).

Summer of Socks 2008 participants received an exclusive pattern designed by Wendy. (I don’t know if it will be available after the summer, sorry!) It’s a terrific pattern for handpainted yarn; compare the lack of pooling on the insteps with the blobs on the ribbed cuffs.

This pattern does twist or bias while knitting, but blocks out beautifully. Some people are using k2tog instead of ssk in every other lace row. Me, I mirrored them (one sock using k2tog, the other ssk); after washing them, I think I prefer how the ssk looks.

I made these short anklets for the intended recipient. The minimum leg/cuff requirement for SOS08 is two inches and these qualify. The bamboo/merino yarn was very nice to work with, and I had no idea that subtle stripes would form. Two more lace repeats before starting the ribbed cuff would probably look nicer, but my hands were tired from all the decreases. : )

Cool socks. I didn’t know your BD was in June. Likewise like mine.
The sock lace pattern reminds me of… crochet filet.
