Itchy Feet
The past two weeks have been pretty much a blur. I had an infected ankle (of all things!) during the Memorial Day weekend. It all started with itchy feet. No fun.
I’ve also been itching to start a new project, but restrained myself to Ornette. And now I can show you them, because they’re done… tada!
This is a compelling pattern, the cables and spiraling are lovely. Sadly, these socks aren’t the best example of my knitting skills. Apparently my two previous projects squeezed me dry of any knitting mojo and I had difficulty concentrating and made silly mistakes. I even dropped a stitch halfway through Kitchenering one toe and didn’t realize it until I was almost finished. Oy vey.
These socks look wonderful on the foot, and the Lorna’s Laces shows off the stitches to perfection, not to mention the color is pretty terrific too.
Instead of using decreases to shape the legs I used US 1.5 needles for the first three repeats on the cuff, changed to a 1 for the remainder of the leg, heel and gusset, then changed to a 0 to finish. The fit is nearly perfect; a few more plain rounds before the toe would’ve been nice. My fault for being so impatient to finish.
These are distinct Right and Left socks. I’ve actually switched them around in the action pictures. The traveling cable panel is prominent on one side of the leg; so, if I were to wear the Right sock on my right foot, people wouldn’t be able to see the spiffy details on the sides of the leg unless I turned my feet outwards á la ballet (eek).

I’m glad your ankle is better - did you have a cut or bite or something?!
Those socks are absolutely stunning. Wow. They sure LOOK like they’re showing off your knitting skills to perfection.
They turned out wonderfully! Ankle infection - you don’t hear about that every day. Glad you are feeling better.
Love ‘em!! I’ve been thinking about wearing mine on the “wrong” foot too, so I can see the cables. Kind of greedy, eh?
Never heard of an ankle infection — certainly doesn’t sound like fun. :-(
Wow, fabulous socks! Hope you feel better.
Gorgeous socks! Any idea on when Cookie will be releasing the pattern?
I’m glad your ankle is better. Those socks look great!
So striking! WOW!
Those are so beautiful! I would also want to wear them with the diagonal cable on the outside of my leg, it is lovely!
Wow, those are gorgeous! And you’re right, the color really stands out too.
Glad you’re feeling better:-)
Those socks are amazing - little works of art. Infected ankle? Weird. Hope there are no lasting after-effects.
Your socks look fabulous - great color for spring, too!
WOW. Those socks are absolutely gorgeous!
Holy cow. *jaw hits the floor* I want them. I’m big on knee socks and Celtic cables, so these… wow. Just… wow. *speechless* keep up the great work!
Ankle infection? Wow. Hope it’s clearing up quickly!
I love those socks. The pattern is just so ornate and traveling and cabley delicious. Your version look pretty darn good to me!
