Two and a half
That’s how many pairs of socks I knit while writing/testing this pattern! You’ve already seen the green and gray pair I knit for my Hogwarts secret pal last year. Here’s a better picture of the stitch pattern that I didn’t show you at that time. Amelia’s socks were size Medium.
I used the leftovers (Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Pewter) to test the Wide size. What you don’t see in this picture is that I ran out of yarn. No surprise there, since I didn’t have an entire skein to work with. Only the toe needed to be completed, so I had my Mom try them on, and they fit very well.
I knit the Narrow size for myself with Zen Yarn Garden’s Squooshy yarn. It’s a wee bit thicker than Lorna’s Laces, and I went up to US 1.5 (2.5 mm) while working on the leg/cuffs.
There is a bit of flexibility with the lace pattern; knit the even rounds or omit them entirely. Leaving them out will result in sharper curves and texture. Working them means the lace will be smoother and have gentler curves. I hope you can see the difference in these photos. (To clarify, the green and gray socks were knit without plain rounds, but I did incorporate them while knitting my aubergine socks.)
True story: I was this close to naming this pattern Shai’Hulud. Why? Because I thought the lace panel texture resembled sand dune ripples, so it was only natural to think of the ribs between each panel as sandworms. In the end, I decided the pattern needed a feminine name.
The name I picked? Merope! More information and purchase link available here (non-Ravelry members), or go directly to the Ravelry pattern/purchase page. Please do let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, and have fun! : )

Very cool stitch pattern - I like how much it stands out in the grey.
Very nice!! If I weren’t so lazy re. socks, I’d make a pair myself.
