Green Aviator

02.May.08 ~ 4:07 pm

Here’s another project that flew off the needles! Of course, it helps that Lopi is bulky. Lately, I’ve been enamored with Lopi patterns and have added some (both vintage and new) booklets from Reynolds or Ístex to my library. When rummaging through my stash for an easy, quick project, I found two skeins of greenish Lopi and decided to try a hat.

The colors turned out to be not quite ideal for this project. While a stronger contrast would have been better, the variegation makes the pattern appear random and interesting. I like it, so that’s what counts, right?

I added in 8 plain rounds after the colorwork band before starting the crown shaping. The hat would’ve been way too short otherwise (maybe OK for a child). I almost left off the crochet edging, but I’m so glad I didn’t, it’s the perfect finishing touch.

Now, I really want to knit a Lopi sweater! Maybe this fall?

Great hat! I love that green color. I want to make a Lopi sweater, but have to finish the one I’m doing for dh. This is the one, Reynolds #82273, diagonal rib cardigan.

I have a Lopi sweater going. I love the yarn. I don’t understand why some people hate it. Very nice hat!
