Spring Sock Drama
Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Can you believe these socks were knit from the same skein? Yep! Basically, I knit the first sock from one end of the skein, and the second from the other end.
I chose the March pattern from Sockamania Club KAL, and I’m happy with how they turned out. For the insteps, I omitted the cables, and reduced the stitch count and gauge for a firmer, snugger fabric. I absolutely love how the smaller size from the pattern groups two columns together by using one purl stitch instead of two. Admittedly, this annoyed me at first because I couldn’t get into a rhythm… K2P2K2P2, no wait, go back!
I love to mirror the designs on my socks whenever possible. This time, I not only switched around the cable hotspots, but also mirrored the twists.
This project came about when I volunteered to test a yarn for Allison of SSYC. It was definitely an interesting experience, not only because of the color difference already mentioned above, but also because I apparently got a bad skein, with several ply repairs in it. Ouch! The review is here; turns out that the yarn is a new line from Farmhouse Yarns - Fannie’s Fingering Weight. Thanks for the opportunity, Allison! : )

I find it amazing that those socks came from the same skein. Still, they’re beautiful!
Very nice, but yes, one does wonder about the colour difference. Seems to be a fairly frequent occurrence in the handpainted yarn. I do really like how they have a watercolour effect, though — very cool.
The pattern is great but it looks like the second one was left out in the sun too long. Maybe you could over-dye them to make them more similar?
Well, that’s just bizarre - one sock has coral bits in it and the other has violet bits in it!
That is so odd! I do like your mods to that sock pattern.
No and yes. No, they don’t look like they are from the same skein, but, yes, I believe it. They really are great socks, though. I like your idea of going down a needle size for the foot. That is always the part that stretches and doesn’t fit quite right shortly after putting them on.
It is very hard to believe those came from the same skein. The difference is amazing. I haven’t done that March pattern yet, but when I do I think I’ll use your mods.
Pretty, but man what a colour difference.
They turned out beautifully!
Thats really cool that they did that…so long as is doesn’t bother you too badly. But those socks look great irregardless.
that’s just weird that both socks came from the same skein. really?

Nice job on the socks, esp the mirrored cables! Too bad about the vast difference in color.
