Victoriana

15.Nov.07 ~ 6:50 am

On Ravelry, I volunteered to test-knit a fingerless glove pattern for Hattie at Stitch Therapy. She was updating and converting the pattern from a blog post to PDF format and wanted new samples knit with currently/commonly available yarns and new photos.

I knit the smallest size, even though I wasn’t sure they would fit my hands. They do fit, I was surprised! They are snuggest around the base of the thumb gussets; you can see how stretched the stitches are on the right-hand glove in the picture below.

The lace pattern is fun and easy to remember. With Hattie’s permission, I mirrored the slanted double decrease on each glove. (The pattern is written to use only the left-slanting double decrease.) Otherwise, I knit these exactly as specified.

The top section of these gloves are just a bit too long for my preference. I didn’t want to stop in the middle of a lace repeat—if I had stopped with five repeats, they would have been too short (barely covering my knuckles). I now know to knit a half pattern repeat before starting the thumb gussets next time. That should give me the top length I want.

I also would have knit the wrists a bit longer if I had plenty of yarn on hand. I had just one 50 g skein of Louet Gems, and I didn’t know if that would be enough (two strands are held together). It worked out in the end, and these gloves used about 47 grams. I love how smooshy the doubled Louet Gems feels, very comfortable!

I didn’t know Hattie designed a pair of gloves and I read her blog religiously! Am I always the last to know? :)

They came out lovely. I really like that particular shade of purple and they look so cozy.

Those turned out great. I personally like a little more coverage on my fingers as my hands always get cold.

I like how long they are on your fingers. But, like you, I’d like them a tad longer on the wrist. They are very pretty!

Oh, those are very cute! I’m so into fingerless gloves/mitts right now. Not that I’ve finished knitting any. So many choices. Such a bad attention span.

    Ooo, very lovely!
