Baby Cardi
Remember the purple hat and booties I made for Cousin R’s baby? Here’s the last piece of the set I made.
I didn’t want a set all in the same color, so I chose a marled yarn in a coordinating color for the cardigan. This piece is actually what attracted me to the pattern leaflet when I bought it earlier this summer.
The knitting was straightforward, and I love the Bird’s Eye detail, even though it tends to disappear with this somewhat busy yarn. It really pops under certain lighting. I tried various angles but had no luck in getting the bumps to show up very well in a photo.
I had trouble photographing the color too… the purple and white strands wanted to blend into a sickly, purple-gray color. After many tries, I managed a few good shots, though they still needed a bit of tweaking during editing.
While I was in Las Vegas, I knit the front panels and sleeves. I’d rather this means the girl will grow up with an adventurous spirit and not become a gambler!
I love the picot edging (called a bobble bind-off by the designer). The instructions separate each bobble with two stitches. I started with this, but after making ten of them, I decided they were too crowded.
After some math, I figured out that there were two alternatives: space each bobble with three stitches, or five. Five stitches would make for wide spaces and that could certainly work if such an effect were desired. I decided to try three first. The result was exactly what I wanted!
I don’t know if I’ll get a modeled photo, but if I do, I’ll ask if I can post it here. : )

Very cute! It looks so tiny.
That really is gorgeous! I like it a lot. And I think the bobble amount is juuuuust right. I like the scalloped edging on the bottom too. What a lucky beeb!
Cute sweater - I really love the purple marled yarn. I had the same photo difficulty with my Elegance socks. I could not get the subtlety of the yarn’s color gradations captured.
it’s really cute!
