All Hail Caesar!

The mosaic socks for my Sockapalooooza pal are finished! I’m ever so pleased with how these turned out.
The stripes on the insteps both complement the mosaic checkered pattern and provide a nice finishing touch.
Although I didn’t change the main color for the mosaic pattern, I switched it around for the remainder of the socks (cuffs, heels, instep, and toes). Overall, it looks pretty good, and also turned out to be a fortuitous decision. At the end, it was clear that I wouldn’t have had enough Navy left if I kept that as the main color for both socks.
This was my first time knitting a bi-color heel. It’s a bit of extra effort but does look very nice. I measured the heel flaps incorrectly at first and turned the heels about an inch too early. I didn’t realize my mistake until I had finished one very short gusset. It wasn’t too bad ripping back—the two yarn colors actually helped with this process.
I don’t know if I would want to use Knit Picks Essential yarn again. It seems too soft, almost too loosely plied.
In a day or two, these socks will be in the post to their new owner. I hope she likes them! I certainly enjoyed knitting these and definitely would like to knit myself a pair with another of the mosaic patterns from the book.

Stunning! I’m way to scared to tackle those patterns, though I want to. I’d love for someone to photograph the sock turned inside out. ;)

[...] I like the colours, but it turns out that the plain stocking stitch panels between the yarn-over spirals just aren’t doing it for me. But the slip-stitch heel, now that I like. Which is making me think about slip-stitch patterns like Crusoe, or Rock and Weave. Or maybe even something in a mosaic…. [...]

The socks are gorgeous! I have yet to try mosaic patterns but you’ve inspired me. I’ve been catching up on your posts and am sooo happy to here you and yours were not involved in the tragic bridge collapse-My sister lives in Minneapolis (actually Shakopee) and travels that route every day for work-she was at our family reunion (in Iowa) when it happened. I left Iowa at 19 but enjoy my once a year trip back to see my large family.
Your secret pal.

Hello Harriet, this is your sock pal. Many many thanks for the beautiful socks, they fit perfectly! And for the other gifts they are great and so generous and I like them very much, especially the chocolates ::)). From the Knit Picks wool I´ll knit a pair of socks for my husband as you said and from the “Titania” I´ll knit a pair for me. It was a pleasure for me to have you as my sock pal. Stay in good health and always a happy knitting!! =Helga
