Hogwarts SS2 Questionnaire

We’re in the middle of Harry Potter mania with the newly-released movie and the soon-to-be-released final volume. I enjoyed the Hogwarts Sock Swap and after much deliberation decided to sign up again for Hogwarts Sock SwapTWO. This time around, I’ll be a Second Year, and interestingly enough, I’ve been transferred into Slytherin House. (Silencio! No booing or hissing.)

This swap runs from August 1 to October 31. Rebecca Deputy Headmistress McGonagall has modified the swap objectives to keep things interesting.

First Years are people who didn’t enter Hogwarts in time for the first iteration; their swap packages will include socks and a set of stitch markers in their pal’s House colors, and a set of sock needles. Signups for First Years opens on July 14, check the sidebar for instructions.

Second Years, having participated in the first round, will again send socks in their pal’s House colors. This time, we also send sock yarn in their pal’s favorite colors, a sock pattern, and a Harry Potter themed bookmark (purchased or handmade). Signups are open to current participants as soon as they have mailed their pal’s socks.

Hurry on over and sign up for some sock magic and fun!

Here are my responses to the required Questionnaire.

  1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into?
  2. Shoe size? Foot length? Foot circumference?
    US 9-9.5; EU 40; length 9.75″, circumference 8″.
  3. List your three favorite sock yarns.
    a. Shelridge Farm Soft Touch Ultra (Heather is also good)
    b. Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock
    c. Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock – Mediumweight

  4. Would you like to try a new brand of sock yarn? If so, which brand?
Maybe sKNITches? There’s a Monk colorway of White Oak Studios’ TVYarn that I particularly covet. (I hope it’s not discontinued!)
  5. Do you prefer variegated or solid sock yarn?
Either is good, but I’m more interested in solid and nearly-solids.

  6. What colors would you like to add to your sock yarn stash?
I prefer deep (bold or muted) colors over pastels or primarys. Right now, I feel I have an overabundance of browns/beiges in my sock yarn stash.
  7. What kind of sock patterns do you gravitate toward? Lace? Ribbed? Fair Isle?
Textured. A little bit of lace is OK, but I’m not fond of very lacy patterns. Ribbed is good and I’ve been on a mosaic kick lately, and hope to knit some stranded or Fair Isle socks soon.
  8. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, animals, etc.)
Peanuts (it’s not severe; when I eat peanuts, a rash breaks out on my hands and arms).

  9. Will your socks be exposed to cigarette smoke or animals as you knit them?
Non-smoking. I have two cats. They generally stay away from the yarn, preferring to attack the needles.

  10. Are you willing to have an international Hogwarts Sock Pal?

Hey pal, if you want, you can check out my answers to the first questionnaire. I look forward to a fun swap! : )

I was looking through all the second yers blogs and saw your link to the Monk colorway above. My mom loves Monk so I etsy mailed White Oak. That colorway is still available. Just to let you know. I’m in an enabling mood tonight. :)
