(A couple readers have expressed interest in the Sockamania Club Knitalong, which, up until now, has been closed to new members. The club has opened to new participants with a possible cap at 100. If you signup before the 10th, you can participate in the current July pattern-along and qualify for the monthly drawing if you finish before the deadline. Email signup and KAL details are on the club’s blog sidebar.)
My birthday was simple but lovely: quesadillas on the grill at my parents’ house, then gifts.
Being from a bookish family, I wasn’t surprised to receive some books, namely MoreSensational Knitted Socks and Favorite Socks. With these books I now have plenty of patterns to choose from while making a dent in my stash, right? : )
They also gave me these:
Dad gave me the bowl you see in the above picture. You may have seen these things before… the bowl is made with many layers of folded strips of paper (recycled, I believe, from magazines etc). It’s quite fun to look at. Here’s another view.
Mom picked out for me the skein of Fleece Artist Sea Wool. I’ve not yet tried Fleece Artist, much less anything containing SeaCell, so I’m really excited to work with this. Right now, I’m thinking the Waving Lace sock pattern from Favorite Socks might be a good match for these colors.
I just love these plums and purples in this colorway.

Thanks for the heads up on Sockamania! I just sent in my request to join.
And it looks like you raked it in on your birthday. Very nice stuff. I never get knitting related things from family.

Wow, what lovely gifts from your family!
Have you started your July sock? I had to go up to 80 stitches because of the cables. That’s required a bit of pattern tweaking.

Sounds like your family knows you well! That sock yarn is gorgeous!! I can’t wait to hear what you think about it, since I haven’t tried any of the seacell stuff either. I love those magazine bowls. They are so cool.

Happy Birthday! What great gifts! That bowl is way better than the necklaces we used to make out of strips of magazines made into ‘beads’. I made some socks from Fleece Artist Merino Sock yarn, I liked it very well. Just recently felt her sea silk, so lovely! And WAY cool books!
