Grand Shop Hop

Quick note: I am testing a new photo popup plugin in this post. Go on, try it out by clicking any of the pictures below. Please let me know how it works and how you like it. Thank you!Update: To close the pop-up if the instructions don’t work or show up for you, click on the pop-up/larger photo itself and it should close. Update #2: This plugin has been deactivated, thanks!

A couple weekends ago was the “Handcrafts on Grand Shop Hop.” The stores included The Yarnery, The Bead Monkey, and Treadle Yard Goods. Mom and I decided to go, because we hadn’t been to two of the participating stores yet. I’m glad we did, even if it was cold and rainy!

Treadle Yard Goods

I’ve long wanted to visit this shop. Both Mom and I love oilcloth, which can be difficult to find and a bit pricey. TYG always has a big window display of oilcloth and the bright colors easily catch your eye from the street. So it was no surprise that Mom took advantage of the occasion and purchased a yard of oilcloth.

The pink strawberry print immediately caught our fancy. There were lots of lovely prints, but this was our favorite. Mom is not yet sure what she’ll do with it, but placemats would be a great project.

There were some buttons on sale; these fabric-covered buttons came home with me.

I squealed as soon as I viewed this picture on my monitor. My eyesight is lousy enough that I didn’t realize there were little baby faces inside the flowers. How sweet! I may use these on the Cropped Cardigan (more motivation for me to finally finish the last bit of seaming!).

This dog manages to look serious and adorable at the same time.

The Bead Monkey

This shop was a fun experience; I’d never been in a bead shop before. I loved seeing all the colors and shapes and themes. Since I’m a “bead novice,” I had trouble figuring out where to find what I wanted. I was looking for “8/0″ as listed in a couple sock patterns and was directed to the “Size 8″ section. Then I had to ask for help again because I didn’t know how many beads were in each tube. Turns out there were tiny labels near the size signs list the quantity. I would have liked the signage to be a bit more accessible and/or detailed. Nevertheless, I finally chose two colors of Czech seed beads, a dragon green (#879) and a dark silver (#30).

Mom browsed the tables and had fun choosing some beads for a silver chain she already has. (The black trays customers use to bag and price the loose beads were nifty.)

The Yarnery

By this time we reached the last shop, things were getting busy. I checked for More Sensational Knitted Socks, but they were out of stock. I looked and admired some yarns I don’t get to see often, like Mountain Colors Twizzle, and oohed and ahhed over the shop samples. Finally, I decided to buy this pattern by Cabin Fever.

Sounds like a fun tour! Um, not liking the plugin. The first two images don’t actually show in the post. When I click on the first one, nothing came up. A window came up with the buttons, but then it was hard to get rid of…

The photo popup works great for me. I’m using Firefox ver 2.0.0.3. May be the plugin is not compatible for other browsers?

oooo beads, I haven’t been to bead stores for a long time. I love beads for knitting especially.

I love Treadle Yard Goods! And I am very much a danger to myself in bead stores as well, although I haven’t been to the Bead Monkey. What I fun weekend. Your images look good to me. I’m using an old version of Firefox.

I’m a FireFox user as well and the pop-up feature worked beautifully. I like it. That hat is really cute. The corded detail around the top and “brim” really makes it, don’t you think?
