Hufflepuff Progress
I’ve finished both cuffs/legs of the sock for my pal in the Hogwarts Sock Swap. Today is Show and Tell Friday, and we get House Points if we blog about our socks-in-progress for our pals. Go Gryffindor! One more quick thing, Rebecca plans to host a Hogwarts Sock Swap TWO later this year (Aug 1-Oct 31); if you missed the deadline for the first one, you have another chance! Signups will open July 14.
Back to my Hogwarts socks… remember the snafu with the dyelots? Even though I’m using the same stitch count and needle size, the difference is obvious between the two skeins of Lorna’s Laces Bee Stripe.
Exactly what I was dreading. Yet, at the same time, I’m pleased because it’s not as awful as I feared. In fact, I find the differences interesting and even stimulating.
Left sock has a bit more pooling which creates the illusion of yarn dominance. Can you see the sections where black seems dominant, and then the yellow? (Easier to see in the first picture.) How very Op Art-like.
The right sock striping is continuous and equally compelling. (It almost reminds me of snake skin.) I’m using the Chevron pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks. I chose this one because it has a rib and the socks should have some elasticity.
Try not to stare at the pictures too long! : )

They look really cool!
EXCELLENT pattern choice. Thanks for posting your Hogwarts sock.
5 HOUSE POINTS to GRYFFINDOR!
I suspect a certain House Elf swapped those dyelots in shipping. I actually love the effect, but then again, I love wearing mismatched socks so maybe I’m not the best judge. :)
I could stare at those socks forever… they really are mesmerizing.
I like how they’re knitting up! I like it when socks don’t match though. They look fantastic!
You picked a good pattern. Both socks are interesting. Your pal is going to really appreciate all the effort.
I think you’re right. It’s interesting how they are knitting up, mesmerizing.
Very odd little socks indeed. Odd in a good way though. I’d probably fall on my face if I wore them, I would be too mesmerized while walking. Little yellow and black blurs on my feet….
They are just mesmerising!

WOOHOO! 5 points for Gryffindor!!
