A couple more things

26.Feb.07 ~ 6:26 am

The “What’s in a color?” contest is still going on, so leave a comment (in the previous post) if you haven’t entered yet. Deadline isn’t until Wednesday.

Before moving on to new topics, I wanted to show this picture I took early Saturday morning for The Loopy Ewe’s Frank/Martha challenge. It shows off the Trekking stripes very nicely. These few snowflakes were just the beginning of a heavy snowfall that lasted most of the weekend.

Also, a couple weeks ago, Dave asked the following about the Mermaid socks:

How do the socks feel with the pattern on the sole? Can you feel it when you walk on them?

If you haven’t knitted Mermaid socks before, you may be wondering why he asked this. I meant to take a picture, but forgot all about it until Dave’s comment.

I’ve worn these socks both with and without shoes. At first, I do feel these ridges on the underside of my feet. But the knit fabric relaxes with wear and after about 15 or 30 minutes, I don’t feel any difference. The stitch pattern is easy to track, so it shouldn’t be difficult to change the sole to plain stockinette.

I also noticed that the legs untwist a little bit with wear; this doesn’t bother me. If you prefer your sock legs/cuffs to be a certain height, you may wish to knit them a little longer with this pattern.

Hmm, so my picky feet might not be mermaid candidates…

    Still lovin this sock.

I’m wearing a similar sock today- 4×2 spiral rib, LN’s garter heel, continued pattern on the bottom of the foot- and star toe.

They’re very comfortable! I do notice a bit of snugness for the first few minutes- then they feel like any other hand-knitted sock.

[I knit these about 1.5 yrs ago]
