Thrice the Fun
(Psst, here’s a secret… I am approaching the 500 comment mark here on this blog. The lucky 500th commenter will receive a small prize!)
As I was working on the hats mentioned in the previous post, Abigail posted her new dishcloth pattern. I was intrigued by the rounded corners and decided I needed a break from hats.
Upon opening my cotton stash storage box, I picked out two different but complementary colors of Sugar ‘n Cream cotton. Why not knit a set of washcloths and send it along with the hats for the Greyhound Pets of MN craft sale?
The 4 Corners dishcloth was quick and fun to knit. I really like the round corners (scroll down for another view). At first, I wasn’t sure I liked the eyelets formed by the short-rows. Once I washed and blocked it, they looked much better!
My next dishcloth was one that I tried ages ago with no success. This time around, I had no trouble with the Chinese Waves pattern. I cast-on with 35 stitches instead of 45 for a smaller cloth. I tried to knit enough repeats so that the length and width would be the same. But as I washed and blocked it, it shrank a bit vertically. It’s still very cute, and no broken needle tip this time around.
My plan was to use the leftovers of each color for a third washcloth that would tie everything together as a set. It worked—I like how the set coordinates without being matchy-matchy. Fortunately, I didn’t mess up this Garterlac dishcloth. The downside to this multicolor Garterlac was the 14 yarn ends!

I love the dish cloths. I might have to make myself the 4 corners one!
Oh yeah, congrats on getting almost 500 comments!
I’m so glad you liked it. Now do send me a pic and enter the contest.
Yours is very spiffy!
I keep meaning to get around to making a dish/washcloth one of these days… Yours are gorgeous. I’ve seen the garterlac and the 4 corners, but Chinese Waves is new to me. :)
I do like the 4 corners dishcloth. It’s not your typical dishcloth. That’s a nice set you’ve put togther there.
Congrats!
They turned out great! But dang - that’s a lot of ends for a little dishcloth, isn’t it???
Very nicely done! I really like those colours. But I agree with Chris — ends, ends, ends!!
14 ends on a dishcloth????? YIKES!
I do like the dishcloths, though, especially the rounded corner one.
thanks to link to the pattern.. i love the way it has rounded corners… and yours turned out great..
The cloths are great, and you are right, way too many ends for a little dishcloth square. But it didn’t stop me from knitting several of them. Congrats on the upcoming 500th post.
Your dishcloths look so cool! I hope they’re not gifts - I think the recipient would be afraid to use them. :)
Those dishcloths are kind of addictive, arent’ they?
Those are great dishcloths!!
You did such an awesome job, I just love that color combo. Thanks again!!
Nice job! Yikes to the fourteen ends. And congrats on 500 comments!
Yeah - those 14 ends is what’s kept me from doing the garterlac cloth… It’s lovely though! I’ll have to try the 4 corners cloth, it looks like fun… thanks for sharing :-)
Dishclothes have never interested me until now. Thanks for linking to the patterns, I need to go into the stash now, Bye!
