Have you ever misplaced a needle, only to find it in the laundry a few days later?

I’ve been busy! I finished the Flamingo socks and mailed them off, sans mutant Zebras. The person who will receive the Zebras has already returned to the Cities, so I will gift these separately. Pictures are forthcoming.

I took a break from socks to knit some fun little things for babies and kids.

The Six Sox Knitalong group is knitting a cute Chain Link pattern right now. There is an accompanying toddler-sized version available for CIC or other charity organizations. I couldn’t resist it and since I have plenty of worsted weight wool on my hands right now, I knit up two pairs.

The yarn I used is Cascade 220 and Cascade 220 Quatro (the blue marl). I love the Quatro; I always seem to forget how much I like marled yarns. I inverted the colors for a second pair. Unfortunately, I ran out of the blue for the accent on the toe, so I left that one plain!

The yarn comes from Megan, who generously shared her Cascade leftovers (from a terrific French Market Bag). I hoped to use the blue in my secret Christmas gift. I ended up using the taupe instead, but am glad I was able to find a use for this yummy yarn.

I also knit and mailed four darling caps for Caps to the Capital. They were fun and quick to knit, about 1-2 hours. I used two different weights, the bottom ones are heavier weight (I avoided a too-tight gauge), and the top ones are lighter weight and are slightly smaller in circumference. I also made the caps a little bit shorter than given by the handout pattern, because I didn’t want the cuffs to fold up.

As you can see, I knit one plain, and then played with colors while knitting the second. I didn’t follow any patterns or look in stitch dictionaries, but went with the flow. I decided to change colors on purl rows to create these contrast bumps and love the effect (lower left cap). I also used a simple slip-stitch pattern on the ivy-league cap (upper right).

I’m glad I was able to finish a few caps! The next deadline (other than the Zebra socks) is for the Red Scarf Project.
