Holiday Preparation

07.Nov.06 ~ 9:38 am

I stopped by the 3 Kittens (update: link fixed, thanks!) last weekend to get some yarn for the secret gift I’m making. I lucked out because they were having a sale. The yarn I bought was 45% off, and I also got 15 patterns for $1! (The yarn doesn’t break my Yarn Diet, because it’ll be used for a gift.)

There’s some older patterns by Classic Elite, Sirdar, Artful Yarns, and Unger, two White Lies Designs, and a Noro booklet! (There’s a cute hat pattern that might be perfect for the two skeins of Silk Garden I’ve got in stash.)

I’ve started on the gift and I can’t really blog about it or give too much detail. But here’s a peek.

The pattern incorporates short-rows for the triangles; it’s all very clever and easy to work once you get into the rhythm. I’m loving the triangles; they remind me of the stripes I colored on tigers or zebras when I was little. : )

The Hippy Crunchy pattern is interesting and challenging enough that I need to count the stitches after every row, to make sure I’m on-track. I’ve decided to frog the first sock I started; it wasn’t turning out properly, and I accidentally cut the tail when taking away the waste yarn for the hem. (When will I ever learn…?) So I took this as an omen to start over. I was only halfway through the first repeat, so it wasn’t painful. I plan to restart later this week.

Meanwhile, I’ve started work on a new pair with the Tiger colorway. Cuff #1 is finished, and I’m trying a second pattern for the leg. The first one I tried was a bit too busy for the striping. I’m on the fence with this current stitch pattern. After a few more inches I’ll make a decision. (Or perhaps, I’ll be too far gone to restart?)

I can’t get your link to work - where is 3 Kittens? It’s one local store I’ve never hit.

Which White Lies patterns did you get? I didn’t know any stores carried them!

The patterns sound like fun and the knitting you showed is very cool! I like the use of short rows there.

I’m so glad that 3 Kittens is undergoing such a transformation! I went in there last week and wow, it’s SO different from before.

No yarn left for stitches.
