Distractions

Well… I’ve decided to install WP in a test folder to see if I can get everything moved over and setup to my liking. I gotta say that was the easiest installation ever, and I’ve tested various blog and CMS platforms during the past 3 years. Nice!!

I’m now slowly copying posts and comments over there, so that is taking a while. I’m about halfway through, I think. I want to finish by Sunday night so I won’t have to worry about those anymore, only pictures and new posts.

The themes and plugins are easy to install, too. I especially like the ease of adding links/buttons for new KALs, super easy.

I still can’t decide what to do about a gallery. I’d rather not have a separate gallery (eg: Gallery2 or Coppermine), but something integrated. Rina has a nice ANIga gallery on her site. I’m testing it on my site now; I like some parts of it, the default “No Image” to represent a category is a minor annoyance, but you can easily update that through the interface. The biggie is that I can’t seem to figure out an easy way to insert pictures into posts from the gallery. Copying doesn’t work (it gets the picture but makes a text link instead). This only happens with pictures from my ANIga gallery; if I copy from the gallery here, it works fine. So I’m not sure why it happens differently.

Another option would be to use Flickr or maybe the new Piasca from Google instead. I’ll be testing these two this weekend too. Any comments/feedback on these options or other WP stuff would be much appreciated! : )
