Of War and Sockdeath

31.Oct.06 ~ 6:15 pm

During the past few weeks, I’ve been participating in Sock Wars 2006. It’s a tourney or assassin-style knitalong where each socknitter is assigned a target. We’re given a weapon (the International Socks of Doom pattern) and must try to complete and mail off our target’s socks before being killed ourselves. It’s been fun, even if it got off to a shaky start with Hurricane Gordon hitting Ireland right at the start. Yarn Monkey had trouble sending out dossiers but we got ourselves mostly sorted out and worked our merry ways through the tourney.

It has been interesting to watch; Continue reading »

Misbehaving Socks

29.Oct.06 ~ 7:16 pm

Edited 01/2008The pictures have been removed to prevent trauma for socknitters. (Ok, not really. They’re just gone!)

With the arrival of Autumn and her cold days and nights, it’s the perfect time to start wearing handknit socks! I’ve been happily wearing mine, but there were two near-disasters. Continue reading »

Secret Pal Wrap-Up

17.Oct.06 ~ 5:46 pm

This post is long overdue! (Oh, the guilt!) I participated in both Secret Pal 8 and the One Skein Secret Pals Exchange this past summer. I had long enjoyed reading about other people’s experiences in the SP exchanges, and forced myself to start my blog earlier this year so I would be eligible for SP8. Then I saw the premise for 1SSP (send 1 skein for each of the first two months, then a knit/crocheted item made with 1 skein in the third month) and loved it. I’m glad I pariticipated in these exchanges. It was a lot of fun spoiling my secret pals and receiving goodies, too! I don’t think I would want to do multi-swaps again (at least, not for a while). There’s a new Sock-ret Pal that was tempting (and such a cute logo), and is setup a bit differently, with 3 swaps spread out during 6 months (one package every two months). Maybe next time!?
