During the next three months, I have five pairs of gift socks to knit.? The yarns I will be using are from the Opal Rainforest 2005 collection: Tiger, Zebra, Ladybug, Flamingo, and Parrot.
I could knit all the socks in plain rib or stockinette because of the variegation/striping. But that’s not very exciting, and I know I would struggle to meet my goal.
So, I’ve hunted down several patterns I believe will complement the Rainforest yarn. Can you guess which pattern and which yarn I will use for the first pair?
Some information and rules:
-
The socks will all be adult-sized, and will be gifted to both men and women.
-
The pattern is available free on a webpage, or as a free PDF. (Edited to narrow down the field a little bit more, and to add the following hint.) The Socks pattern directory at Knitting Pattern Central would be a good place to sockhunt.
-
Deadline to enter: Saturday September 30.
It’s only appropriate for this sockhunt that I give away sock yarn as a prize, right? The lucky sockhunter to guess correctly will receive a skein of Opal Petticoat in color 1291 (red/green/blue striping). If there is a tie/no correct guesses, there will be a random drawing.

Ready? Send me an email with your guess at lime AT limedragon DOT com. Have fun, and may the best sockhunter win! : )

Opal Tiger socks would be too obvious, and too easy for your socky expertise. I’m guessing you will use the reptilian sock pattern from Knitty http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer0.....nlace.html with the Zebra print. Thanks for the sock pattern directory link–excellent resource! And happy knitting. I LOVE that Opal Rainforest yarn.

I am guessing the “purl when ready”.

I guess that you’ll knit the Zebra yarn first in the Jaywalker pattern. Because Jaywalking Zebras, what could be better?

So many sock patterns to choose from.
I love sock patterns and knitting socks ~sigh~ so I picked a pair I thought were neat and if I had Opal rainforest 2005 color type yarns I would hands down knit the Eagles Flight Socks.
