MN State Fair = End of Summer

The Thursday before Labor Day, Mom and I went to the MN State Fair. Our first stop was the Creative Activities building where you can see all the entries in the crafts and baking competitions. Here are a few pictures of interesting things I saw or liked. (Sorry, no sock monkeys! Actually—we couldn’t find the famed dresses.)
There were many wonderful quilts, and I especially liked this primitive or whimsical cat-themed example.
This sheep quilt was also cute.
Here’s a gorgeous knitted butterfly lace doily.
How about a prizewinning pair of mittens? No, wait, how about two pairs?
And a string of cute mini-sweaters. (Was this an actual category? I missed that.)
What’s that behind the felted mittens?
The socks (made possible with yarn gifted from my SP8) I entered! They didn’t win a ribbon; however, I’m really happy with the score I got: 95 out of 100. The judge commented “Very nice work & joining top band. This lot was extremely competitive this year.” I was amazed at the countless pairs of socks entered. Last year I found only three pairs on display. A big jump. Plus (and I didn’t realize this until later), the category I entered was for textured socks and does cover lace and cables as well.
We saw a topairy display with all kinds of animals, a lot of dogs, Nessie, and a seahorse.
And we also rode the SkyGlider from the north end of the fairgrounds to the center. (We’ve been on the SkyRide gondola before, but not this one.) I snapped pictures throughout the ride.Tags: color-blox, contests, six-sox-kal, socks, state-fair

Hey…you got a better photo of my blue stripe socks than I was able to get. Congrats on the high score for your socks. I couldn’t find the monkey dresses either.
