A couple weeks ago, I was in the mood to knit a washcloth and Dave’s Garterlac Dishcloth fit the bill perfectly. I had some Peaches & Creme in a crazy rainbow-like colorway that I thought might work well with the entrelac squares.
Pretty fun, right? You can’t tell from the above picture, but I made the washcloth a bit larger, with four edge triangles. I thought I would run out of yarn near the end and apparently I was so focused on the “Will I have enough yarn?” issue that I stopped paying attention to the entrelac patterning.
I was relieved when I finished the last top triangle and pulled the last yard through the loop (yes, just that much left, it worked out perfectly) when I noticed that the sides didn’t seem to quite match up. The washcloth wasn’t square. Hmm… Then I saw IT.
I really laughed and laughed at this… I can’t believe I didn’t even notice while I was knitting the last couple tiers that something was awry. Now I have a lopsided, irregular Garterlac Dishcloth, but I love it anyway. It has personality!
By the way, this project gave me the perfect opportunity to utilize my new knitting backwards skills from Stitches Midwest. It took me a couple tries to figure out how to do the decreases. Picking up stitches backwards was awkward, in fact, I decided it was simpler to turn the fabric around.

I think it’s cute !! Definitely a one of a kind :-)
Turn your work when knitting entrelac?! Blasphemy I say! Just kidding, I’ve never knit entrelac, so I can’t talk;)
As you know, I wanted to make this too… not enough time for everything! Your design element adds something special and the colours are pretty wild.
Very cute dishcloth! The “design element” adds to its charm.
I love it - crazy garterlac!
It’s a tumbling blocks washcloth! Awesome! The colorway is great.
I think it looks cute. I love the colors.
Isn’t that a fun pattern? I love how yours turned out - the colors are great!
