Birthday Goodies!

I would have posted sooner about my birthday but I was overtaken with a fierce attack of purging (the organize and simplify kind!). I finally sat down and took some pictures today.

We had some yummy pizza and calzones from Punch Woodfire Pizza for dinner. Two tidbits about Punch: it’s the only restaurant in MN to be a member of the Verace Pizza Napoletana Association, and apparently Meryl Streep ate there and loved the pizza when she was here filming for A Prairie Home Companion (source). And for dessert, we had my favorite birthday treat, a delicious fruit tart from Lunds/Byerlys.

First, remember this package from Atlantis/1SSP? Inside was a very funny card and a lovely, deep rusty red skein of Artfibers Kyoto.

Atlantis, you’re very lucky to be in San Francisco, home to Artfibers! : ) This yarn is awesome (look at that glow!), thick and soft. For some reason, I’m thinking something soft, ruffly, and lacy for this; I have some leftover Knit Picks Decadence in Hollyberry that might match. Thank you for the lovely and wonderful birthday surprise! : )

I got some knitterly stuff from my parents. First was a really nice woven box; it’s lined and has a flip-up lid that secures with velcro. Perfect for yarn storage, and just what I needed. It also happens to fit perfectly on my bookshelf.

I got a new yellow Chibi, a superb set of Blue Sky Alpaca double-point needles (US 3) in a collectible tin, this cute 3 Kittens cat hat pattern, and 4 skeins of Reynolds Dover in two colors. I plan to make some striped mittens with the Dover. (I actually want to start NOW but I’m still on the SYAC swap sock regimen.)

I was also surprised but thrilled (heh, I first typed enthralled…) to receive a yarn swift! I’ve been wanting one with a base stand because I’m not fond of the clip-stand types. It’s made by BEKA Inc. They don’t have it on their website, so I took a picture of the box label. Beka is local, practically in my neighborhood! I’m guessing that these swifts are made for The Yarnery, since the background in the box picture looks exactly like their shelves. It’s big, and works wonderfully. You can remove one of the 4 dowels if you have a small-sized skein.

And finally, but not at all least, my birthday surprise from my SP8 finally arrived today. WOW, I sure didn’t get the hint when she told me it was “designed with me in mind.” Can you guess what it is?

A colorway named/created for me? Pour moi!? I was floored, but also ecstatic, oohing and ahhing all over the place. : )

Oooh… I am torn between starting a new pair with this RIGHT NOW… or saving it and hunting for the perfect pattern. Mama E did a super job with the colors, so pretty, so green-and-purple, so me! What a great gift, SP8, I love it and couldn’t be happier. Thank you very much! : )
