Rowan Magazine 31
The Rowan site doesn’t have samples for this issue, but you can see some previews at The Knitting Garden’s website.
I like the shape and neck of the Orient shell. I notice, however, that the edges curl a bit around the armholes. Design #1 page 68, picture page 4. The tiny bits of colors are embroidered. I wonder if I could skip them altogether.
Orchid is simple and elegant (there’s a version with a plunging back, I prefer the boatneck version, though). I must remember that color stripe at the bottom edge that matches the skirt color. Nice effect! Design #32 page 105, picture page 6 left.
Kea and Evia are yummy sweaters with bits of colors and gansey texturing. These could be cute together for a couple, without being matchy-matchy. Also available kidsized. Kea: Design #3 page 70, picture page 20. Evia: Design #5 page 73, picture page 21.
Cool Incan (or Mayan?) mask and lizard motifs on Mask sweater (also available kidsized). Design #44 page 117, picture page 24. The same motifs are used on the Mask Blanket, Design #45 page 119, picture page 34.
I love the fat braids and cables on the Surf Cushions! Design #31 page 104, picture page 33.
Another shell/sleeveless top I like is Gracie. It has a button-up front13, but from a quick look at the pattern, it should be no problem to change. Design #42 page 115, picture page 40.
The diagonal details on the Deco jacket look interesting. I can’t tell from the picture, but I think it’s boxier (wider) than I prefer? Design #9 page 78, picture page 43.
**** Oh, Summer Stars would be a great cardigan, maybe just a tad shorter. Design #26 page 98, picture page 43.
Other stuff included: kids, crochet, classic sweaters, “Make it to Fit” article.
